What
can I do as a parent to help my child?
What a parent can
provide for their learning disabled child at home is loving patience and
support. Often parents, determined to help their child reach their
goals, become driven to reviewing homework intensely with the child once
they come home from school. Although reinforcement of the lesson is
helpful, it is just as important for your child to enjoy school. By
forcing more homework and more review upon the child, a parent may
inadvertently begin a change of attitude for the child about school.
What was originally viewed as challenging yet fun may now become a chore
and very undesirable. Remember, just as important is the opportunity for
your child to relax and simply "be a kid."
